True Superstars
In the middle of the Over Britain tour on April 15th 1983 Spandau released the third single from the True album. It was the title track. It entered the UK chart at Number 20. One week later on 26th April, Gary Davies announced to millions of fans huddled around radios during their lunchbreaks that it had given Spandau Ballet a UK Number One. It stayed there for the whole month of May. The group did the double as the album also took  top spot in the albums charts. The tour sold out. "True" became the most famous song Spandau Ballet ever recorded. It  took them round the World and into the hearts and minds of millions. It is a classic of school dances of the 80s and subsequently of weddings of the 90s! Channel 4 in the United Kingdom  commissioned a poll of its viewers and users of its website to find the 100 favourite number ones.  True made the list at Number 61.

The band followed up True with "Gold".  The keyboard playing of Jess Bailey contributed enormously to the sound of this wonderful song. Its is the best theme song a James Bond movie never had.  Arch-rivals, Duran Duran did get to write a Bond theme, but Gold became the theme-tune to the TV coverage of the LA Olympics.  Spandau mania was starting to sweep the World. Our lads adorned bedroom walls throughout Europe and beyond . After the tour of the UK and Europe, the band went off to Germany to record their 4th album "Parade"
