| Spandau Ballet released their first single in 18 months. "Fight For Yourselves" featuring Sadie Frost in the video is released in July 1986 and reached Number15 in the UK charts. It was the first single from the band's 5th album, their first for CBS, entitled "Through The Barricades". Around this time, Gary got political, and teamed up with Billy Bragg and co for benefits for the Miners Strike and later the Freedom Beat Concert The next single from the album was the title track. All the members of Spandau Ballet and a good number of their fans agree that this was the finest song that they ever recorded. "Through The Barricades" was according to Gary " a Romeo and Juliet story" which was set against the backdrop of the "troubled land" of Northern Ireland. It featured Tony's strongest vocal peformance,Gary's finest lyric and wonderful musicianship from each of them. "Through The Barricades", although not a number one in the UK, is equally as famous a song as True and Gold and is the one that still inspires cigarette lighters to come out whenever Tony performs this live. Gary has also performed this song on stage, as an encore to his Little Bruises solo tour, at a few benefit gigs and TV appearances. "Through The Barricades" was promoted by a massive Worldwide tour. Whilst in Berlin, Steve Norman and the Kemps walk away uninjured from a serious car crash. A video of this tour can be bought online here |
